Veteran reporter John Milburn was named communications director of the Brownback reelection campaign, effective July 14. Milburn brings more than 20 years of experience covering the military, education, the statehouse and politics across the state of Kansas.

“I am pleased to welcome John to the team” said campaign manager Mark Dugan. “His experience and understanding of what matters to Kansans, make him an excellent choice to join the Brownback team.”

Milburn has more than 20 years’ experience reporting on Kansas, its citizens and issues. He spent the last 13 years with the Associated Press covering the Statehouse. Prior to that time, he worked with media in Lawrence, Pittsburg and Arkansas City. Milburn and his family reside in Lawrence. He is active in Boy Scouts and with his church.

“I am pleased to join the Brownback team,” Milburn said. “I look forward to sharing the achievements of the Brownback administration with all Kansans.”

Milburn earned his journalism degree in 1990 and a political science degree in 1998, both from the University of Kansas.
